Acquisition and Digital Effects 1 & 2.
During my Masters, we had two modules of Acquisition and Digital Effects. The first module, we were tasked to create a short VFX shot. And in the second module, we were tasked to re create a shot from a film or television show. For the second module, I chose to recreate a shot from the Conjuring 2.
For the first of these modules, I had initially intended on doing a different short, which included a living blowfish on a balloon being held by a woman in a sunny park, however, due to the fact this module was taking place in Winter, the weather didn't really allow for this shot to take place. Therefore I chose to change my idea to indoors, where re shoots were completely possible, and I chose to have a UFO come in and examine a dog.

My biggest issue with this shot was that I used Maya and Arnold, whereas before, when I had done VFX, I had used 3ds Max and Vray. Getting everything to render properly was a tricky thing for me to do in Arnold as I've only used it for stylised creations previously.
For the second of these modules, I chose to recreate a scene from the Conjuring 2. I love these films as I feel like they're the best examples of good modern horror. I also thought that choosing the scene where she comes out of the wall would involve a lot of things that I haven't entirely done before and so thought it would be a good challenge and learning experience to strengthen my VFX knowledge.

I was quite happy with the end result of this shot. There were some issues with trying to match the lighting in the green screen studio with the lighting of the set (visible in the shots where the hands come around the painting).
